My work explores themes of home and its evolving meaning through the human experience- as it relates to both a sense of solitude and togetherness. “Home” as a physical protector from harm and as an idea, a false protector from change, challenged by the way in which that very change is required for us to build a more intentional and whole vision of home- within ourselves and as a collective.
artist statement
Most recently, I have been using still life painting of common yet uniquely sentimental objects as my subject matter to evoke feelings of comfort, loneliness, and a mixture of the two- a disillusionment. Muddy applications of vibrantly charged colors represent the possibility of newness and necessity for hope within changing structures and ways of living that confront a stagnant, individualistic ideal of home.
